7 Things to Think About When Choosing the Right Backsplash for Your Kitchen
You’re going to want to think long and hard when it comes to designing your kitchen. The kitchen is the most expensive room in the house to design, but it is well worth every penny if you simply follow our tips below. After you’ve selected your appliances and countertops, we have presented seven important factors to consider when selecting the perfect backsplash for your kitchen!
Blue My Mind
First thing’s first. Think about the color scheme. Do you want a fairly neutral space throughout or do you want your backsplash to serve as your pop of color?
Sky High
Now you should think about how high you want your backsplash to extend to. The height and width will ultimately depend on the layout of your wall cabinets. Or if you prefer a simpler look, turn your backplash into a focal point above your stovetop!
Material, Girl
The type of material you choose will play a significant part in what design style you would like your kitchen to embody. To name a few, there’s stone for a more traditional or rustic look, glass for a modern or coastal look, cement tile for an eclectic look, and metal for an industrial look. You can even use brick for a farmhouse look!
Shape Up
Once you’ve selected your material, you can decide what shape and pattern you’d like your backsplash to be. A scalloped tile or arabesque tile will add a feminine flair. Or a herringbone orientation will give your kitchen a geometric pop!
Tip of the Scale
You’re going to want to weigh your options when it comes to the scale of your backsplash. These tiles can be as small and detailed as you want, naturally blending into your design. Or you can up the scale of your tile to really make it a statement piece.
Finish it Off
Texture is important when considering backsplash options, and the material you select will ultimately play a large tactile role. But texture can change the other elements of the space immensely! You can opt for a matte finish to achieve an understated modern look. Or you can install a gloss finish to create a super sleek and luxurious environment. You can even mix and match textural finishes like we did in our client’s coastal kitchen here!
Read Between the Lines
Grout color can truly redefine your kitchen. Most people select a lighter grout finish, but consider the contrast and boldness the black grout finish has on your space! You can also bling out your tile by adding gold or silver trim insets!
Cha-Ching
Budget is the most important thing to factor in when designing kitchens. Obviously the more detailed and intricate the tile is the more expensive the price per square foot will become. Classic subway tiles are luckily trendy and inexpensive! If you are looking to save a ton on backsplash costs, then pick up some lumber boards at Home Depot or use recycled wood materials to create a farmhouse backdrop. If you don’t mind spending a little extra, spring for the marble!
