Let’s Get Cozy! Tips for a Cozy Home This Winter
When I think of a cozy home…a shelter from the howling winds, falling snow and dropping temperatures, I think of warm and wonderful ways to chase away winter’s chill. As temperatures outside drop, it’s time to bring some warmth back into your home. Use these tips and tricks to cozy up for winter.
Throws
There is finally a true chill in the air and, frankly, I’m thrilled. I’ve already had a delicious sofa nap under my throw blanket and look forward to many evenings curled up under one watching TV or reading. Throw blankets are a fall and winter essential for optimum coziness and also add color and texture to your “sofa-scape.” Try introducing soft textures like cashmere, faux fur and wool throw blankets.
Quilts
The temperature is known to plummet at night during Northeastern winters, causing heating costs to skyrocket. Keep your utilities at bay by adding a quilt to the bottom of the beds in your home, ready to just pull up over the duvet if the night gets chilly. A quilt is really one of the best winter bedroom essentials.
Towel Warmer
Treat yourself to the ultimate in winter luxuries. A towel warmer keeps your bath towels toasty so you don’t feel a chill after hopping out of the shower. It is one of the nicest ways to treat yourself on a cold winters day or night. I’m currently coveting this one!
Winter Home Scents
Smell plays a huge role in creating a cozy atmosphere in your home, whether it’s cookies baking in the oven (unfortunately, not in my home because I’m not much of a baker) or a scented candle warming a room. For a woodsy aroma of fir, cypress and hearth, try the Winter Home Scent collection from Restoration Hardware, available in candles, diffusers and room sprays… these smell amazing!
Warm Soups and Stews
Nothing warms the heart and a home like a big pot of soup or stew simmering on the stove. Let the aroma of this chicken pot pie soup fill your home with tasty smells of the season. Get this killer recipe from The Garlic Diaries here!
Flannel Sheets
Soft sheets are worth their weight in gold, and a flannel set is the only way to go in the winter. Plus it is an easy way to create a subtle bedroom makeover but one you will definitely feel. My current fave is Garnet Hill’s Hemstitched Supima Cotton Flannel Bedding. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
With these tips and subtle changes you will be enjoying this winter in your cozy home cuddled up on the sofa with hot cocoa (or wine!) and a great book in hand!
