Let’s Get Toasty: Leedy Interior’s Top Fireplace Makeovers – Let Us Show You How
Does your fireplace make the statement you want it to, or is it more of an eyesore? Make the bold impression you desire and use our favorite fireplace makeovers as your guide!
A fireplace is a major feature in a room, and in some cases, it is the focal point. You want the fireplace to have an attractive appearance, as well as fit into the room’s overall decor. When you’re remodeling a room, the brick on the fireplace that worked well with the old decor – will most certainly clash with the new decor. One of our number one requests from clients as of late is “PLEASE help me get rid of that brick fireplace!” So we thought we’d share some of our best fireplace makeovers, and here they are. After all, who doesn’t love a good before and after!
Here the goal was simple – to make it feel new, fresh, happy and modern, but with some interest that keeps it from being too predictable and certainly far from generic. So, for this client we went with 3” x 6” Asian Statuary tile from TileBar. We chose this material for this space because most white marbles are airy, tonal and classic. We had them installed in a herringbone pattern to add interest… and voila!
For this client we toyed with patterned tile as well as wood planked tile, but ultimately we decided that the small room could not handle a pattern or that much texture – it needed to feel as clean as possible. So we went with 6” x 24” porcelain tile from Lowe’s that resembled natural limestone but was a fraction of the cost.
Here we removed the brick mantel completely and refaced the brick with a 16” x 24” copper metallic porcelain tile from Artistic Tile. We went back and forth on the tile layout with this one and decided to have our installers lay it in a stacked pattern for a more modern, clean-lined look. Plus this particular tile, with the metallic glaze, had a lot of movement and sheen going on already so if we were to lay it in a running bond, also called brick pattern, we felt it could be too jarring.
Our clients wanted the fireplace to be the focal point of their living room. We added a large scale wood mantel and moulding to add depth and dimension. Oh yea- and to finish it all off- we selected this fantastic 3-dimensional basketweave tile from Ann Sacks.
Now that was some serious fireplace makeover satisfaction! These fireplaces and spaces came together in a bright, fresh, modern and BIG way. And that makes our little designer hearts sing!

herringbone pattern definitely stands out! Fireplace looks great, we have done a fireplace with ledgestone but never thought marble would make it look classic.

Hi Lara,
Thank you so much! We appreciate the feedback. We are working on a ledgestone fireplace now, that is going to be a beautiful, classic look as well!
