Tips for Solving the Pillow Puzzle: How to Arrange Bed Pillows
There are two kinds of pillows, the ones we use and the ones that end up on the floor. One or two, maybe three, decorative pillows can work, but after that the bed starts to look like the Macy’s floor model and requires its own staff to man handle it every evening before bed-not to mention making it all back up again the next morning. Let us show you how to arrange bed pillows:
We totally get the impulse to break up the big, boring landscape of the bed’s surface with color and pattern. Both Euro pillows, those wonderfully large square pillows, and a throw or two can do the trick. Euro shams can be found in loads of fabulous patterns and designs. They will seem more like gorgeous textiles than plain cotton pillowcases do, and they will add a layer of polish and finish to a bed.
Here is a fantastic chart that lays out all of the pillow sizes for you:
If this ratio is too blah for you here are a few other great options to try, put together by fellow designer Marissa Waddell from Marissa Waddell Interiors.
A few more considerations for your pillow recipe (serves two) would be four standard, queen or king size pillows depending on the size of your bed, 30” for queen beds and larger for king beds-two of these pillows would be for sleeping. One or two smaller pillows, either a boudoir pillow-those dainty little things-or a small throw pillow for resting an elbow or your neck while reading or watching TV. Two or three Euro pillows-the 26” square pillow that is great for propping yourself up to read, make sure these are firm, not limp and squishy.
The number of Euros you use is really a personal preference-I like to use three on a king size bed but that’s just me. One last thing to keep in mind-if someone in the family has allergies be sure to go for natural, non-animal materials as some people are highly allergic to down.
Now that you have several pieces to your pillow puzzle go snuggle in and put those pillows to use!
What is your pillow puzzle?
