How to Incorporate the Pantone Color of the Year 2015 and Other Hues of Red in Your Home
Meet Marsala, Pantone’s color of the year 2015, the earthy red hue of the moment! A reddish-brown that’s rich and delightful — and a complete departure from the brightness of past years’ picks. It is an updated neutral that will translate well to interiors and decor.
Sensual and bold, delicious Marsala is a daringly inviting tone that nurtures; exuding confidence and stability while feeding the body, mind and soul. Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this robust shade incorporates the warmth and richness of a tastefully fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots point to a sophisticated, natural earthiness.
The color has been chosen as it will “enrich our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability” according to Pantone Colour Institute executive director Leatrice Eiseman.

2015’s Pantone color of the year has got us going gaga for red, every hue and shade of it! Here is how you can incorporate Pantone’s Marsala and other blissful reds into your home.
Full of drama and passion, it’s not a color for the faint of heart-but when thoughtfully used-it can make a room come alive.
Contrary to popular belief rich, bold colors work really well in small spaces such as a powder room. This brilliant color will envelop your visitors with a cozy, warm glow. You can pull off a more unusual or intense color in these small spaces. The powder room photo on the top-a hot, passionate, and sexy warmer tone of red with a slight hint of orange. This is one of Benjamin Moore’s most beloved reds-Caliente AF-290. The color of the powder room above is a similar hue of the red-brown in Marsala but with more rust in it.
You could also mix a variety of reds and they look great together. Red hues are dynamic and add life to a room.
This vivid hue when added to an upholstered headboard adds such a glamorous effect.
The color red mixes well with almost any color scheme. Use it as an accent color. When you add accents of red it draws attention to other things you might not even notice in the room.
Try adding a single piece of red artwork to your space and watch it pop!
Just like red lipstick, or your favorite handbag you don’t have to put on much else and you can still walk out of the house feeling like a million bucks. When it comes to red, less is often more.
This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.

For interior design Marsala will prove “complex and full bodied without overpowering” and has the ability to unify interior spaces by adding elegance through paint and accessories. This hue is a bit darker and has more red in it than Marsala, but is a similar red-brown combination. In a bedroom a bright red is too high energy for most people, making it a difficult room to rest in. By going with a deep, rich red with a wealth of brown in it your room will have a much more mellow and relaxing vibe.
As red hues are thought to stimulate appetites, Marsala is an excellent choice for a dining room. In this dining room the ruddy, earthy hue is paired with a cheerful yellow and plenty of natural light making the overall space feel light, happy and bright.
Nurturing and fulfilling, Marsala is a natural fit for the kitchen and dining room – making it ideal for tabletop, small appliances and linens throughout the home.
