Our Favorite Cement Tile Resources
We are seeing cement tile, also referred to as encaustic tile, popping up everywhere and I don’t know about you but we just can’t get enough. The bold colors and graphic patterns in these one-of-a-kind beauties, makes them the perfect way to add high impact to any space. Plus, cement tile is durable and resilient, so they are family friendly too. Needless to say we are huge fans!
The number one question we get about cement tile is how and where to use it. The great thing about cement is that it is super versatile. We’ve used it as flooring, on shower walls, tub surrounds, countertops and backsplashes. Up next-we’d LOVE to incorporate it into a fireplace design. Any takers?
We totally get that it may be scary to take the plunge, so if you are nervous about incorporating it into your home, we usually suggest using cement tiles in small areas where they can make a big impact. Think-laundry rooms, bathrooms, and mud-rooms.
If you go with patterned cement tile, we suggest that the other finishes in the space be fairly simple, to offset the boldness of the pattern. You don’t want the elements in the space to be fighting one another.
Another question we get is regarding maintenance of cement tiles. Since it is a natural material and is porous, it must be sealed when installed. The upkeep after that is minimal. They can be cleaned with a simple mop and water or a pH neutral cleanser.
