LI’s Guide to Selecting the Right Flooring
Choosing new flooring can be an overwhelming and daunting task. With all of the different materials available and the options to go along with them, who knows where to start? We have rounded up eight of our favorite flooring options to help you select the right type for your home!
Hardwood
Hardwood flooring, a traditional favorite, adds instant charm to your home with its timeless style and natural beauty. Known for its durability and natural feel, hardwood comes in a variety of styles including pre-finished boards, parquet, and plank. Looking to add some depth and dimension to your home? Try pairing dark hardwood floors with white cabinetry.
Vinyl
Love the look of hardwood, but not the cost? Vinyl is a popular choice for rooms such as bathrooms and kitchens that are prone to moisture problems and is easy to clean. Even better – vinyl is softer underfoot than other types of flooring and is extremely durable. Check out this gorgeous luxury vinyl tile from DuChateau. We can’t wait to use this for our next project!
Cork
Up next on our list of fantastic flooring options is cork. One great aspect of cork flooring is that it is sustainable. Cork comes from the bark of a tree and is harvested every eight to ten years, which means the tree is able to regenerate new bark that can be harvested repeatedly. Cork is even able to absorb vibrations and sounds, making it a great option for high-traffic and noisy spaces.
Concrete
Concrete flooring is great because of its long-lasting durability. Looking to make a statement in your home? Concrete comes with a wide range of sealers, specialty stains and dyes, and etching techniques, making your floor your canvas.
Porcelain Tile
Porcelain tile is an innovative product that is gaining popularity among homeowners and designers. It is available in many different finishes, including glazed and unglazed, high-gloss and refined, or textured to resemble natural stone. Even better – porcelain tile is very affordable and can be used both indoors and outdoors.
Cement Tile
Flooring is the perfect application for cement tile due to its durability and resiliency. Cement tile is also slip-resistant, making it perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, and mudrooms. Plus, the bold colors and graphic patterns in these unique beauties makes them the perfect way to add high impact to any space! Check out our favorite resources for cement tile here.
Bamboo
Looking for flooring as strong and durable as steel? Try bamboo! This trendy material is pre-finished and engineered with tongue-and-groove joints, just like standard hardwood flooring and is relatively easy to maintain.
Slate
Slate is a great flooring option for kitchens, bathrooms, and mudrooms. Its tough composition makes it resistant to scratches, fading, and harsh chemicals, and with regular routine sealing, slate will last you a lifetime. It even comes in vibrant textures and colors, making it a wonderful addition to any room.
The possibilities are endless, whether you prefer traditional hardwood or concrete, we’ve got you covered. Happy designing!
