April Showers: Shower Design Ideas
As the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers, and that’s what inspired our April blog post….showers, literally. The shower has its place in our everyday lives, and now more than ever the focus in shower design is more about the “experience” rather than just a hygiene ritual. Whether you’re building a new home or remodeling, adding a spa-like shower is a great way to add luxury to your bathroom. With all of the options and new technology out there, the thought of adding a custom shower can be a little overwhelming.
Shower Design Ideas…we’ve compiled a list of things to think about when designing your dream shower.
Vertical Spa Sets or Body Sprays. Vertical spa sets or body sprays completely redefine the shower experience by providing messaging jets and water spray that is completely customized to the way you want to experience your shower. Vertical Spa Sets are complete shower sets with valves that allow the user to customize placement but provide the best products possible for the shower. Body sprays can be added to any shower with the use of a diverter valve and can provide different spray types depending on the desired shower experience. Some are space savers and discreetly blend into the wall, while others are adjustable for a range of intensities. Another benefit is that many body sprays provide targeted relief for arthritis, sports injuries, or just everyday aches and pains.
Multi-functional Showerheads. Multi-function showerheads offer a variety of different functions, specific massage options and a range of intensities, from pulsating blasts to light and gentle mists.
Hand Showers. Hand showers offer all the functionality of showerheads and allow you to direct the flow of water right where you need it. They are also a great option for people with disabilities or for someone who may have just had surgery and has limited mobility.
Rain Head Showers. Rain Head showers mimic the feel of being outdoors in an afternoon rain shower yet in a more luxurious setting all the while providing an overall soothing experience.
Steam Showers. More and more homeowners are opting to re-create this spa-like experience at home by turning their ordinary shower stalls into warm, vaporous havens by incorporating steam showers. Along with the benefits to your skin and sinuses, there’s no standing around waiting for a whirlpool tub to fill or a sauna to heat up—and when you’re done steaming, you just turn on the shower for a refreshing rinse.
Shower Doors. Shower doors come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and styles. Whether you’re incorporating a corner shower, working in a tight space, or using steam controls, there’s a shower door for every need.
Grab Bars. Grab bars make getting in and out of the shower easier for people of all ages and ability levels. Safety is always key when designing for wet environments.
Shower Seats and Benches. Adding a seat to the shower provides women with a convenient place to shave their legs, and offers comfort and convenience to every member of the family. Shower seats can be tiled and built seamlessly into the design or by adding a simple folding seat applied to the wall that can fold up and out of the way when not in use.
Shower Storage. Easy-to-clean shelving units mount into any shower wall or module, and come in a variety of styles, colors and finishes. For a more streamlined look, niches can be built into the wall of the shower and tiled, providing storage.
Visiting plumbing showrooms is a great way to get product information and see products in a room setting. There are also many online design resources available from the multitude of plumbing fixture manufactures.
Remember, the most important aspect of your dream shower is you.

I really love the idea of shower enclosures—like the last picture on this article. I used to have an open shower, and all the steam would leave and fog up the mirrors. Plus, it would always be super cold when you got out! With enclosed showers, you don’t have to worry about those problems.

Absolutely Alex! It’s funny you mention that because I used to have the same problems, I would never want to get out of the shower because I knew I’d be stepping into an ice box!

I love the shower design with the tan built-in bench and niche. My husband and I are thinking of remodeling our bathroom. Having something like a built-in nice would be nice.
