12 Items Every Outdoor Space Needs

With summer just around the corner, it’s important to have a great place where you can enjoy the outdoors. Creating a functional and stylish outdoor living space is not much different than creating an indoor one, you just have to focus on how you plan to use the space, and what you will need to make it comfortable and inviting. This is why we have rounded up our favorite outdoor essentials to help you create the patio of your dreams!

1. Covered Area

It is extremely important that your outdoor space has a covered area. The sun can be very overwhelming and you wouldn’t want the rain to ruin your day. Umbrellas, pergolas, and awnings are great solutions to these problems! If you decide to go with an umbrella, make sure it matches your rugs and pillows.

2. Dining Area/Seating Area

Another important aspect of your outdoor space is making sure your guests have somewhere to sit and relax. A dining table instantly makes your space more usable, while a seating area such as lounge chairs or a sectional makes the space more inviting. If you usually entertain large groups of people, try long, rectangular tables with bench seating.

3. Cooking/Drink Prep Area

One of the best things about having an outdoor cooking area is being able to prepare your meals and attend to guests while enjoying the weather. An outdoor cooking and drink prep area means you get to be present with your guests instead of heading back indoors every time someone needs something.

No outdoor space is complete without proper lighting. You can use lighting to set the mood and accentuate your outdoor space’s features. One great source for lighting is solar LED outdoor lights. These lights charge during the day and store power so that they can give off light at night. Low voltage landscape lighting, as well as flood lights, are other great ways to illuminate and brighten your outdoor space.

5. Plants/Landscaping

Having a variety of flowers and plants can help liven up your outdoor space. Try buying decorative pots in different sizes, displaying a tray of succulents on a table, or placing hedges to help define your living area from the rest of your yard.

8. Grill

You can’t have a patio without a grill! One of the most important aspects of a party is the food, so make sure you choose the size and features that best fit your needs.

9. Insect Zappers

Nothing kills the party vibe quite like mosquitoes. Smoke can sometimes keep mosquitoes and wasps at bay, but an even more efficient option is an insect zapper. This device emits a bright light that attracts the insects to it, and once they touch it, the zapper creates an electrical shock that kills the bug instantly. Try positioning one near the center of your outdoor space, or install several all-around for better protection.

10. Fire Pit or Fireplace

Fire pits and fireplaces are another great way to produce ambiance within your outdoor space. A fireplace or fire pit creates an amazing focal point and you can even use them to cook!

11. Decorative Accessories/Rugs/Cushions

Decorative accessories such as rugs and cushions can bring the whole design of your outdoor space together. After you choose your furniture, find outdoor-friendly pillows and rugs to complete the look. Rugs are great because they provide your guests with a safe place to put their bare feet and pillows will make your furniture more comfortable. Try adding other accessories, such as serving pieces, lanterns, and dinnerware to convey your sense of style.

12. Solar Panel Charging Docks

Mobile phones have become an essential. Install furniture or docks with solar panels so your guests can keep their devices within reach. This gives your guests a convenient way to keep their phones charged and includes an accessory that will impress anyone who sees it!

So, there you have it – our favorite items and tips to help you create the best outdoor space possible. Happy summer!
